Functional description member of C2-PLD subfamily. Analyses on the gene structures/sequences, overall amino acid sequences, and domain structures indicate that PLDalpha3 is most closely related to other two PLDalphas than to other PLDs. Phylogenetic analysis has not identified a true ortholog for PLDalpha3. Involved in hyperosmotic response.
